"Confess: What Job Did You Want as a Kid?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-12-01 14:41:10

The other thread got me thinkin' (oh noes!) so I'm taking a quick break from webwork and gonna ask: As a kid what job did you want when you "grew up?" (No more than three - I know my job desires changed a few times when I was a child.) 1.) Comic Book Artist2.) Veterinarian3.) Horticulturist I sent out demos and even got interviews in '98 at the makers of Descent and TIE Fighter. But not enough undergo. 2) Animator would have been alter. I made memo-pad flipits and entertained people in adjacent desks with them. 3) Astronaut - when I was VERY young. Or at least helping to build the craft. I still don't know what I really want to do when I grow up. I wanted to play professional soccer. I gave that one up when I turned 12 or so. I also wanted to be a policeman and to drive trains. Nothing of that happened either. I wanted to be a lot of things. -Archaeologist-Forester-Actor-Musician-Illustrator-Writer Most of all though:-Ninja Turtle (before the internet ninja craze; this was when it still meant something) 1. A communicate host (could still do it too!)2. A ninja3. I wanted to be a special agent for the US government. Basically the guys from the Time Crisis arcade games. 1. A necromancer (*smell* My dream still has not come true. I am still a shaman)2. A murderer (Dreams can go true!!!)3. A llama (They have secret mystical powers!) 1 rockstar2 breakdancer3 shaolin monk4 alien I made the first two and I sometimes get to inform about dinosaurs. I win. :) 1. Dentist (influenced by the Rudolf the Rednose reindeer cartoon)2. Baseball player (unfortunately no talent)3. Scientist (kids can be so generic) 1. Dentist (influenced by the Rudolf the Rednose reindeer cartoon)2. Baseball player (unfortunately no talent)3. Scientist (kids can be so generic) To be honest I've never heard of someone who when young dreamed of being a dentist. i retire from the army after 22 years in december. its the only thing i ever wanted to do and now that its done i dont know what to do. Soldier (Age 3: i was a product of the the vietnam war on tv) i leave office from the army after 22 years in december. its the only thing i ever wanted to do and now that its done i dont know what to do. Ninja alter: Crap! Forgot about my desire to be an archaeologist. Or a historian. Or a history teacher. I just wanted to do stuff with Ancient Egypt and Greece. 1. Video bet programmer (Age 10)2. Video game programmer (Age 13)3. Video game programmer (Age 16-) I wanted to be an astronaut most of my young life until my allergist crushed my dreams (thanks for that) with the stony boot heel of reality. So:1. Astronaut2. Vice President3. God (Pathfinder Charter Subscriber. Pathfinder Companion Subscriber. Pathfinder Modules Subscriber. Planet Stories Subscriber). 3. A zoo vet so I could touch tigers and snuggle with bears! Thats my vote. I still want to be one. I always wanted to flex my oiled body on the land during a volleyball game to the song "Playing with the boys". 1. Motorcycle racer2. Illustrator3. Wandering martial artist (OK so I played too much Streetfighter in the 90s!) 1. Writer2. Game Designer3. Campaign Setting Designer (seriously). Ended up as a dentist *sighs* Can I say? BOOOORING! I must acknowledge. I did what I wanted to do as a child. I was a firefighter/paramedic until a back injury made me change careers. Not many people get to do their childhood conceive of. While the job did make me extremely cynical it gave me skills that I use today in my job and life. I wouldnt change a thing (except avoid the back injury) until a back injury made me change careers Sucks. :( The leading cause of ousted FF/EMT's. There is a serious upside to the bariatric surgery fad. Dragon. Dungeon and Polyhedron are registered trademarks of under authorise. "Finally, my Lulu Rant." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-12 12:35:43

Lululemon pisses me off. Its homepage philosophy:“creating components for people to live longer healthier more fun lives.”What is healthy or fun about spending $125 on a pair of sweats!? I believe the Yoga philosophy is about impermanence and detaching from material things; Lululemon has nothing to do with Yoga and everything to do with marketing to a sucker demographic to make a lot of money. When you pay $79.00 for a sweater to warm up in after doing Yoga I don’t see a perpetuation of non-attachment. People love their Lulu and Yoga is becoming a trend for the privileged because if you’re not wearin’ that certain logo you’re not really doing Yoga. Notwithstanding the high price of Lululemon gear. Lululemon targets especially young skinny women. I get it that the tight fit is part of the science of sweat but promoting thinness is not necessarily a promotion of good health and wellness. We all know the dangers of being too thin. We all know that dieting can be dangerous. Eating disorders are rampant but being “fat” is viewed as disgusting. And if you’re fat you better not try to squeeze into a pair of Lulus and head to your closest studio; because such actions are reserved for the tight asses who binge with their wallets but starve themselves to feel good! This is why I was pleased to read today in the Financial Post. What? There isn’t REALLY seaweed and nutrients in Lululemon’s over-priced sweat shirts for your precious skin to absorb!? Really!? What about positive universal energy? Is there THAT?I wonder if they are going to claim next that there are weight loss herbs in the fibers of the so-very high tech cloth. Living healthy is a personal subjective experience. It’s about expressing yourself in whatever way you want. It’s about being happy with your body and exploring your health and quietness of mind without any cultural or financial pressures. For more information on Lululemon’s founder (who thought it would be funny to hear “Lululemon” said by the Japanese). Chip Wilson and what he has to say about outsourcing manufacture to Asia (that’s right – not so Canadian-made anymore). Because women's work is never done and is underpaid or unpaid or boring or repetitious and we're the first to get fired and what we look like is more important than what we do and if we get raped it's our fault and if we get beaten we must have provoked it and if we raise our voices we are nagging bitches and if we ask our doctor too many questions we're neurotic and/or pushy and if we expect childcare we are selfish and if we stand up for our rights we're aggressive and "unfeminine" and if we don't we are typical weak females and we still can't get adequate safe contraceptive but men can walk on the moon and for lots and lots of other reasons we are part of the women's liberation movement.-Joyce Stevens written for Women's Liberation Broadsheet,International Woman's Day. 1975.

"Status Quo" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-09 22:54:58

When are we going to see the beauty industry take a go away from its statusquo of exclusionary affect? The Independent about Black and Asian women being largely ignored in the beauty industry. This ignoring/isolation issue is reminiscent of one of my last trips to Wal-Mart in University ago with my roommate at the time who was a fan of the corporate giant. She is a black woman and she needed some product for her hair. Wandering up and down the hair care isle we couldn't find "black hair" shampoo. She had extensions and she needed a special formula for her braids. Finally we had to ask an employee and this is the say we received:"It's in the next isle beside the Sunscreen and Cotton Balls." I am not kidding. It was unbelievable and revolting. Sure enough there it was; black-people shampoo next to the sunscreen and like balls. This is one of the many many many reasons that Wal-Mart sucks and I won't be seen walking through the doors of that plague. Because women's bring home the bacon is never done and is underpaid or unpaid or boring or repetitious and we're the first to get fired and what we look like is more important than what we do and if we get raped it's our fault and if we get beaten we must undergo provoked it and if we raise our voices we are nagging bitches and if we ask our doctor too many questions we're neurotic and/or pushy and if we expect childcare we are selfish and if we rest up for our rights we're aggressive and "unfeminine" and if we don't we are typical weak females and we still can't get adequate safe contraceptive but men can walk on the idle and for lots and lots of other reasons we are part of the women's liberation movement.-Joyce Stevens written for Women's Liberation Broadsheet,International Woman's Day. 1975.
